Diagnosis
One of the greatest challenges Cardiologists have in their day-to-day practise, is deciding what sized stent to use.
While vessel sizes can vary, stents only come in a narrow range of sizes. iVascular’s “Angiolite” stent is different – as it works perfectly across a large range of vessel sizes. The challenge faced by the marketing team, was to overcome the physicians’ disbelief – that the stent could work just as well in larger vessels, as it could in small ones.
This is the story of how Made Clear Studios used creative filmmaking techniques to bring to life the story of the best stent in the industry.
The procedure
By inserting this footage of the real product performing so well in life-sized transparent arteries, we could clearly demonstrate the unique design – such that finally, all cardiologists seeing the film, could see for themselves that the Angiolite stent could deliver big solutions, when faced with big discrepancies of vessel size.
Pre-procedural planning
Firstly, iVascular identified the most appropriate case study – written by Dr Armando Perez del Prado – who we invited into a TV studio to talk through his procedure and the patient’s outcome. Secondly, we engaged world-class model makers and stop-motion-animation specialists to tell the story with models and animation. We re-created the life-sized artery, as seen in the patient’s angiogram, in transparent acrylic. With the help of a trained cardiologist on set, we filmed the insertion of a guidewire into the model artery, followed by the expansion of the Angiolite stent, to show its expansion. We sent in another balloon to show the unique overexpansion capacity – showing the stent perfectly forming to the model vessel around it. We then used an oversized model to animate the expansion frame-by-frame – resulting in an intricate stop-motion animation that demonstrated the exact growth of the stent to fit the vessel, without the balloon in shot.
